Ingredients

  • 8 slices, challah or cinnamon raisin bread
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Preparation

Whisk together egg yolks, half and half, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Heat a large sauté pan over medium-high heat. Add butter, swirling to coat pan. Dip bread slices in egg mixture, making sure to coat both sides generously.

Place coated bread slices in a preheated sauté pan over medium heat. Cook until golden brown, then flip over and brown second side. Serve with a sprinkling of powdered sugar, maple syrup, fresh berries, or whipped cream.

Additional Tips

We like challah or cinammon raisin for this recipe, but you could use any bread. French toast is a delicious way to use up days-old bread.
