What they’re saying about Joe Bastianich, Author of Vino Italiano: The Regional Wines of Italy
Mario Batali and his business partner Joe Bastianich create magic night after night in their many twelve hotspots in New York City, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
Joe Bastianich left a job on Wall Street to spend a year in Italy driving from region to region in a VW bug, working on vineyards and in restaurants, and immersing himself in the rich tradition of Italian enology and cuisine.
Upon Joe’s return to the States, he opened his first restaurant with his mother, Lidia, called Becco. This theater-district trattoria featured his unprecedented “prix fixe” wine list, which was met with overwhelming enthusiasm.
In 1998, Joseph teamed up with Chef Mario Batali to open Babbo Ristorante e Enoteca. The restaurant attracted a flood of critical praise, including an enthusiastic three stars from the New York Times and was selected by the prestigious James Beard Foundation as The Best New Restaurant in America.
Continuing their partnership, Joe and Mario opened six more wildly popular restaurants in New York City: Lupa Osteria Romana, Esca, Casa Mono, Bar Jamón, Otto Enoteca Pizzeria, and Del Posto. Recently, Mario and Joe headed West and opened a suite of restaurants: In Los Angeles, Osteria Mozza was just nominated for James Beard Foudation’s 2008 Best New Restaurant! In Las Vegas, Bastianich and Batali’s eponymous B&B Ristorante and the more casual Enoteca San Marco, located in the Venetian Hotel Casino, were recently joined by the duo’s first steakhouse, Carnevino, housed in the adjacent new development, The Palazzo.”
What they’re saying about Lidia Bastianich:
Lidia Matticchio Bastianich was born in Pola, Istria on the northeastern coast of the Adriatic Sea. Over the years, the region has belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Italy and Yugoslavia. Today Istria is divided between Croatia and Slovenia, and Pola is part of Croatia.

She is also founder and president of Tavola Productions, which produces quality broadcast shows, like Lidia’s Italy.
Lidia is the chef/owner of acclaimed New York City restaurants- Felidia, Becco, Esca and Del Posto as well as Lidia’s in Pittsburgh and Kansas City. Along with her son Joseph, Lidia produces award-winning wines at the Bastianich and La Mozza wineries in Friuli and Maremma. |
