Hail to the Cheese 2012

For two weeks in October, everyone will be united in cheese.  Our third annual Hail to the Cheese event is the time to give cheese a chance, as we feature over 600 cheeses from home and abroad.

Our in-store experts can help you shape your personal cheese party platform with worldwide exclusives like 2007 Vintage Beemster or goat cheese spreads made in-store daily. We will also have a slew of visiting dignitaries, ummm, award-winning cheesemakers, in all of our stores with samples to help you decide if you lean more towards sharp or soft.

Why all the pomp and circumstance about the Central Market Cheese Department? Our cheesemongers are hand-cutting and wrapping our cheeses daily, which means each bite you enjoy tastes just the way the cheesemakers intended.  And if you have a question, just ask, these experts love to talk about any and everything we have in-store.

The excitement of these two weeks has also spread to our chefs in the cooking school with classes about putting together the perfect cheese board, to hands-on classes making some of our cheesy favorites, or an introduction to French cheeses, these classes are sure to get a few nods from your taste buds.

And for a bit of fun, we have two candidates campaigning very hard to be your Commander in Cheese. The question is are you with Wexford? Or will you say "Brie is for me"? This is no time to be be neutral, join in and vote on our Facebook page, then share your vote and make sure everyone knows which candidate you stand with.

Now, here is a look at some of the cheeses that will be on specials during Hail to the Cheese, October 10-23.
  • 2007 Vintage Beemster - A worldwide exclusive, we loved this cheese so much that we bought the whole batch. A sharp smoky flavor with tantalizing salty edge that pairs well with Zinfandel or Port wines. You wont find this anywhere else.
  • Fromager d' Affinois - The mild buttery flavor has a sweetness and the paste has a thick, tangy, milky quality.
  • Ford Farm Coastal Oak Smoked Cheddar - Slowly smoked over natural oak until it takes on a subtle oak smoked flavor.
  • St Pete's Select Blue Cheese - Named after the type of sandstone that forms the caves where it is aged for a minimum of 100 days.
  • Cypress Grove Purple Haze Goat Cheese - An unexpected marriage of lavendar and wild fennel pollen.
  • Brie Martin Collet - Rich, smooth and full of flavor. This mild and sweet cheese is a natural companion to crusty baguettes and crisp champagnes.
  • Comte Cheese AOC - Comte has a nutty, fruity, toffee notes. A great melting cheese it is perfect for classic fondue.
  • Dolce Extra Creamy Gorgonzola - From Italy's Lombardy region comes a traditionally made, velvety smooth blue cheese
  • Sartori BellaVitano Black Pepper - Rich, nutty, creamy BellaVitano with just the right pinch of cracked black peppercorns impart a spicy zestiness that is nothing to sneeze at.
  • Cello Riserva Asiago - Each wheel is carefully crafted and aged for ten months. Buttery cheese with a hint of tang, it is mild yet assertive. Its sophisticated essence lends a savory nuance to soups, salads, and pasta.
