Feast of Sharing

It’s our favorite time of year at Central Market! Not only is it the beginning of the holiday season, but also a time where we all come together to serve the community at our annual Feast of Sharing event. This will be the sixth annual event in Dallas and the first time ever to be held in Fort Worth.

The Feast of Sharing dinner is a free holiday celebration and is open to people of all ages. The celebration includes a free Thanksgiving dinner complete with turkey and all the trimmings. Central Market is prepared to serve up to 20,000 people combined during the 5-hour events in both cities. In addition, the celebrations include a Family and Social Services Area and Kid’s Zone with bounce houses, face painters and photos with Santa Claus. A full lineup of live music will add to the festive atmosphere, including in Fort Worth the Western Hills High School Drum line and Color Guard, FWISD Honor Choir, The Texas Girls’ Choir, Kids Who Care, Wade Hatton & the Texas Hat Band and many more. In Dallas, groups include blues singer, Andrea Dawson; The Superkings, New Orleans-style jazz; Canta Rhythm and Brass, Downtown Fever and others.
What makes this event so unique? Guests are served a complete Thanksgiving dinner by a wait staff of volunteers bringing meals to the tables, a significant departure from similar events where meals are dished out in cafeteria-style lines. This personal service lends a sense of warmth and celebration. In addition, more than 600 volunteers from Central Market/H-E-B store, individuals, and organizations from throughout the community will be on hand at each event to dish up and serve the dinners, which will be prepared in a state-of-the-art mobile kitchen.
The Mobile Kitchen, specially designed for H-E-B is the true workhorse behind the Feast of Sharing dinner. It’s a 45-foot trailer equipped to cook more than 2,500 meals per hour.  The kitchen is operated by a seven-person staff and accompanied by two 53-foot trailers full of food and supplies. The Mobile Kitchen travels statewide to assist in all Feast of Sharing events and also assists in disaster relief efforts when needed.
Event organizers are expecting close to 20,000 guests this year due to awareness that has been created by working with more than 80 community organizations, nonprofits, churches and schools throughout Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex this past year.
Free transportation is available to both events. The details are listed below:
In Fort Worth: The T is offering free bus transportation from all of its bus stops to the Feast of Sharing event. Riders must present the Feast of Sharing flyer/voucher to receive a free ride. Vouchers will be available at various social service agencies, churches and nonprofit organizations throughout the city, as well as at Central Market-Fort Worth located at 4651 West Freeway (on the corner of Hulen Street and I-30 in the Chapel Hill Shopping Center). Click here to print a free bus voucher.

Central Market’s parent company, H-E-B, started Feast of Sharing 24 years ago in Laredo and Corpus Christi, Texas. The event is one of 30 dinners the company will hold throughout Texas and Mexico in November and December, serving more than 275,000 people.

We have a great group of folks willing to serve - what are the times we need to be at Fair Park in Dallas and what time do we end?Would a group of twenty or so be a reasonable group size? Please let me hear from you! We are excited!

I am interested in volunteering for the Dallas event for 2013. How can I volunteer?

Darn it! Just learned about this, a week too late. Is there a way to get on an email list for future events? We used to volunteer with a homeless ministry providing banquets several times a year, but the money ran out. Looking for a new chance to serve! Also, can children volunteer?

If you signed up to volunteer for the Dallas Feast of Sharing and have not heard from our volunteer coordinator, please show up, no volunteers will be turned away. Thanks for supporting this great event.

I signed up yesterday and didn't get an email confirmation. Or do you not get one? How do you know if you've been accepted to volunteer?
