Dads: Great Guys, Tough Customers
If you are anything like me, every year around this time you start searching high and low for something great for Father's Day, because it's hard to find a gift for the man who seemingly has everything. You want something special, something that goes beyond grilling or tools or grilling tools.
With that in mind I scoured my favorite store, you know which one, to come up with a few ideas, just right for the hard to buy for guy in my life and yours, who is really into food:
A selection of artisan salame from Olli Salumeria was my first idea. Artisanal slow-cured meats based on original 160-year-old family recipes, how could you go wrong. We carry a variety of the gorgeous products that Olli has to offer. By far my favorite is the Toscano with addition of a fennel native to Florence, which gives the salame a slight licorice-like aroma. But there are classics like pepperoni, calabrese, chorizo, or even Napoli which is smoked over apple wood. If dad is a snacker then these salame are perfect.
If your dad is the master in the kichen, then our own cookbook is a gift that he will actually use. In the Central Market 20th Anniversary Cookbook, we offer lessons on cooking delicious dishes for every season, from starters right through to desserts.
The Texas craft beer scene is taking off, and what a better way to have the dad in your life sip and sample his way through the state than with a custom 6-pack of Texas beers. Our beer and wine partners can help create a perfectly crafted pack of anything from hefe to porters, and all the sudsy options in between.
Keep dad looking good with any of the amazingly, manly products in our Healthy Living department. One of my favorite finds, Everyone Soap for Men in Cedar & Citrus. This three-in-one shampoo, soap and shave gel is perfect for an invigorating shower and shampoo, and a fresh, clean shave, did I mention how good it smells?
A bottle of Central Market exclusive Kuleto Cabernet is a great way to toast dad on his day. Receiving 92 points in Wine Spectator, this Cab is dry with a pleasing hint of sweetness, and pairs perfectly with a set of Riedel wine glasses, find both in the wine department.
Does he need a morning pick-me-up. Up dad's coffee game with pieces from the Hario V60 line, and help him create perfect pour-over cup. The pour-over method allows the coffee maker (dad) to control all the aspects in creating a cup just the way he likes it.
Nothing is better than a sharp knife, and the cooking schools sell the classic Wüsthof chef's knife, pair that with a Knife Skills class and he will be slicing and dicing his way through the kitchen in no time.
Knife Skills is just the start of the classes from the Cooking School, and I love giving gifts that are an experience. Whether it is a Father/Child class or Classic Steakhouse Dinner, there is something sure to peak his culinary interest.
Now the only thing left to do is wrap these goodies up and give him a big hug on June 21st. He deserves it.
