Dallas Lovers Welcomes Dave Phinney of Orin Swift
The history of Orin Swift Cellars dates back to 1995 when on a lark, David Swift Phinney took a friend up on an offer and went to Florence, Italy to spend a semester “studying.” During that time, he was introduced to wine, how it was made, and got hooked.
A few more years of university led to graduation and eventually a job at Robert Mondavi Winery in 1997 as a temporary harvest worker. Deciding that if he was going to work this hard, it would eventually have to be for himself, so in 1998 Dave founded Orin Swift Cellars; Orin is his father’s middle name and Swift is his mother’s maiden name. With two tons of zinfandel and not much else, he spent the next decade making wine for others as well as himself.
Today the company has grown to include a slew of California and international vineyards including, 300 acres of vineyards in the Southwest of France, as well as projects in Spain, Italy, Corsica, Argentina and other locations around the globe. And a long list of recognizable wines including:
Dave will be at the Dallas Lovers Lane store on July 10th for a bottle signing in the Wine Department from 4pm - 5:30pm, then hosting a dinner in the cooking school the same evening from 6:30pm - 9pm.
Papillon a bright, ruby red in complexion, the wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec.
Abstract is a blend of Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino Grenache, Petite Sirah, and Syrah primarily from hillside vineyards.
The line of Location wines, which includes: E, I, and F for Spain, Italy, and France accordingly.
Dave also created The Prisoner, and managed the production of that wine until 2009.
If you are on the west side of the DFW Metroplex, Dave will also be at our Fort Worth store on Friday, July 11th for a bottle signing and cooking school class.
