Fresh Out of the Oven: New Handmade Sour Cream Pound Cake
For the last couple of months we have been toiling away in our test kitchen working on a pound cake that would be worthy to sit on the shelves along side our scratch-made muffins, breads, cookies and cakes. Now, after trials, tweaks, and taste tests we are excited to introduce you to our new line of all natural sour cream pound cakes.
These pound cakes weighing in at just a little over a pound and a half, all start with a batter that has both sour cream and butter to help increase moisture and add to the amazing flavor. Clearly absent from the list of ingredient list are preservatives, which is why the cakes will be made fresh daily, in each store.
With seven new flavors, the first question I asked our Bakery Lead, Edouard Damez, is which do I try first. Without missing a beat, Edouard said "Tropical, it is my favorite." All of the delicious new flavors are noted below:
And just as we ask our chefs to stretch their creativity for new flavor combinations, we also challenge them to look for new ways to present their delicious creations. This time the team found reusable wooden baking molds from France, these "loaf baskets" bake beautifully, up to 450F with parchment or a liner, or can be filled with cookies, spiced nuts or chocolates.
Tropical - Blend of diced mango, pineapple and shredded coconut with a splash of rum.
Strawberry Almond - Swiss strawberry Jam mixed in the rich batter with almond extract. Topped with sliced almonds.
Wild Maine Blueberry -Pack with juicy rich in anti-oxidant Wild Maine Blueberries.
White Chocolate Cranberry Orange - Belgium white chocolate mixed in with orange zest and whole cranberries.
Double Chocolate - Sour cream based chocolate batter made with Valrhona cocoa powder and the addition of Callebaut bittersweet chocolate chips. Simply sinful.
Marble - We swirl together our “not so” plain batter with our chocolate batter to create this masterpiece.
Plain - Moist, rich batter made with sour cream and butter. Flavored with pure Madagascar vanilla.
You can find these taste treats starting Wednesday, February 20, in the Bakery department of all Central Market locations.
