Havanna alfajores, Argentina’s most beloved cookie are back! No need to travel to South America, these delightful chocolate coated dreams are here again, as part of the Central Market Chocolate Collection.
Perhaps you remember when we debuted these hard to get half-cookie/half-candy confections a couple of years ago and customers lined up to buy the decadent treats. We know it took a little while to get them back, but after some finagling (we are the only retailer outside of Miami Airport's Duty Free shop carrying them in the United States) we have them again, for a limited time, while supplies last.
The alfajores were originally made in the small coastal tourist town of Mar del Plata in the 1940’s. Visitors to the small town would visit the bakery and take them back to Buenos Aires where they became extremely popular and developed a devout following. You could even say that Havanna alfajores are one of the most craved food item from Argentina, and with good reason. Alfajores are made with two delicate cookies joined together with luscious dulce de leche, then covered in either semi-dark chocolate or meringue. Even the packaging is luxurious. Each alfajor is hand-wrapped in a beautiful gold wrapper. Really? Yes - really.
These treats will call to you after you have a had your first, so get them while they last.
